Transforming Abandoned & Disused Railways in Guangzhou
Railway used to be, and still is an important way of transportation. It witnessed the urban history and the industrial development. As for Guangzhou, artery and dedicated rails have portrayed the inter-city interflow and the booming of industries and manufacturing, carrying the memories of the city. However, some of this infrastructure, especially with the moving out of factories from inner city, can no longer meet the need of the citizens. The railways become “terrain vague”. This studio focus on the historic background and value, its potential in the new era, to investigate how we can use this out-of-date infrastructure to connect and activation the areas along.
